How's the day going far? How does it feel to be back in Daytona?
It's good for me personally. There's a handful of tracks I really look forward to and this is obviously one of them, so yeah. Always good vibes here for me.
Does it kind of come with additional pressure to perform considering you've done so well here in the past?
Yeah, but at this point, it doesn't really matter. I need to go out and perform. So yeah, there's a lot of expectation, but I just think about the track and the racing, and try to push those things out of my mind, you know?
In your mind, are you kind of treating this as a last year, or are you still thinking of the future? Or are you just focusing on the current moment?
Right now, I'm just taking it weekend by weekend. I don't have the mindset that this is the end, you know. I don't really want to think that, so no, I'm not treating this like I'm sailing off. Just taking it weekend by weekend right now.
Coming back from the Achilles, how do you feel about the story of like being so close to the title last year, and coming back and potentially redeeming the championship this year?
Yeah, I mean that was one of my reasons of having motivation to get healthy again, get back in shape, get back on my bike and come do this again. Last year was, you know, a devastating way to end a series. So yeah, I've had all the motivation in the world to come back and get out here and race.
How do you think this year differs from previous years? Points wise, it’s so tight right now.
Definitely, that's the difference - there’s about six or seven of us within those 13 points. There hasn't been a series like it, so it is true - it’s the deepest field that we've had, especially into round eight. So, yep. The 450 class is in a good spot right now.
It seems like no one's really building momentum either. Everyone's having both bad races and good races.
It's been tough, I know. And then we've already had two mud races, so I think that scrambled a lot up, but that just shows you the depth of the field.
