What's your program like this year? Are you totally by yourself, or do you have some backing? You're not with a team or anything, right?

Yeah, the whole preseason we tried to get on a team because it makes things a lot easier. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to, so my family is helping me out as a privateer. I’m happy to be here today. Training-wise, we put in a lot of work in a short amount of time, and starting with a podium in Tampa was a great way to kick things off.

Yeah, awesome start. What about your deal with Monster? Is that a long-term thing or year by year?

I’ve been with Monster Energy for a few years already. I’m part of Monster Global, so it started in my country, but I also represent them in South America, the U.S., and other places like the EMX. So, yeah, I have their support worldwide.

Do you go back to Chile during the off-season?

I’ve been in the U.S. for over three years without going back, but I’m looking forward to doing a few races there.

Nice, so you’re basically in the States full-time?

Yeah, I think my career is here, but it makes me happy to go back and race there once in a while.

What’s the motocross scene like in Chile? Where exactly are you from?

I’m from the south of Chile. Motocross is good there, but it’s not as big as it is here, which is why I’m building my career in the U.S. But it’s great to race there now and then—the fans are really passionate.

Do you feel like you get a lot support from fans in South America?

Yeah, definitely. I’m the best Chilean rider in history, so I have a lot of support. It’s really cool to have my country behind me, cheering me on at every race.

Do people from Chile travel to watch you race?

Yeah! For Tampa, a few people from South America came to watch. They told me they plan to come to more races too. It makes me happy to see them come out, say hi, and take pictures.

What do you miss most about home?

The food, more than anything.

Last question—what’s your goal for the rest of the year?

I started with a P13 in Tampa, so top 10 is the goal. Yeah, I think we’re not far from that. We need to work on a few things here and there, but if we have a good night, on a good track, and I’m feeling strong, I think we can make it happen.
