I enjoyed the weekends off. I was able to watch a lot of tape and really focus on the things I struggled with in the first four rounds. We made a lot of improvements with the bike and myself, and I feel really strong and ready to go coming into this.
Where do you think you were struggling?Obviously, I struggled—crashing in the first two main events—and I think I lacked intensity a little bit. I need to have a little more intensity and spark for a few laps. We worked on that quite a bit, and I feel good. The bike is good, and I’m fit and ready to go.
How do you feel in the whoops?Good. Dialed. We made some progress over the last couple of weeks with suspension and myself in the whoops. I think we’re ready to go.
Did you expect yourself, five rounds in, to have the red plate?Maybe not the red plate, but to win races. The red plate comes with winning races. I’m not trying to focus on it too much—just trying to keep winning races, grow the point lead, and hopefully take this thing down to the wire.
You're not trying to focus on it, but is there something additional, like mental struggles or barriers, now that you're thinking about championships?Nah, nothing changes for me. We’re four rounds in, fifth round tomorrow night, and it’s a ten-round series. There’s still a lot of racing to go—anything can happen; we’re racing dirt bikes. The focus is just on doing my best each weekend. If that’s a win, great. If that’s a second, then I keep at it, and I’ll be ready.
